Amelia-isms, Part I

Funny Amelia-isms (written for Amelia to read):

As of Date: December 4, 2007
Age: 2 years, 7 months, 9 days
  • When you were first learning to talk, you’d say “Whas daaaaaaaaat?” and we laughed
  • When you were learning to walk, you had this hip swivel that you practiced (it seemed) and it seemed like you only started really walking when you got the swivel down
  • You always eat with at least your pinky if not your third and fourth fingers in the air…so dainty!
  • You’re left handed sometimes and right handed sometimes…we have no idea which you’ll end up
  • Dad started teaching you the Periodic Table of Elements when you first were learning your ABC’s. Between that and Fridge Alphabet Letters, you learned your ABC’s by the time you were 1 ½ years old. You knew all the single-letter elements by the time you were 2 years old.
  • You used to call snow “dirt” and refused to agree with anyone who said it was snow…and you said snow “no”
  • Dad showed you where the moon is, and you pick it out everytime we go outside at dark. When you can’t see the moon, you say it’s covered (“cowered”) up by the dark clouds (even if there are no clouds)
  • Yesterday in the bathroom, you were on the potty chair and I was doing my hair. You said “Muhmuh, what you doing?” I said “I’m fixing my hair” You said “Is it broken?”
  • You and Dad were in the car. Dad yawned and you said “Dah-y? You tired?” Dad said “I’m a little tired” You said “Are you a big tired?”
  • You know all the words to the Little Einsteins theme song and sing it when the show starts or at least at the end of the song you say “Little Einsteins, YEAH!” and throw your arms in the air. You usually ask Dad and I to sing with you.
  • Your favorite in-the-car song is Out of Control by She Wants Revenge, only you call it “The Light Song”. You know all the words to that, too…and you want to listen to it over and over. If we suggest something else, you say “no. How bout the Light Song?” and at the end you say “Play it again!”
  • You build “very big towahs” or “very big castles” out of everything that can be stacked.
  • Anytime you see a castle, you ask “where’s the door?” (Dad always is the one who builds the door in the castles you build)
  • You throw around different accents. Like you say “dy-a-per” with an almost southern accent. You said “saucks” and “baux” with a Canadian accent. And you say “I sink so”. And you say “vork”, “valk”, “yeafbower”, “veedvipper”, “yawnmower”
  • You refused to say Mary’s name even though you were saying a lot of words, so Mary told you to call her Aunt Bob and that’s what you called her for months until finally you said “Aunt Maywee”
  • Everything is about being a big girl…walking, standing, eating. If you’re misbehaving, one way to change your behavior is to threaten to carry you like a baby.
  • When you were two months old, there was an earwig infestation in your bedroom. We slept in the living room for 2 nights before the Orkin man finally showed up. The first night, I was so paranoid about the bugs that I half-slept in an upright position cradling you in one arm with my arms propped up on a pillow.

  • Your favorite show is The Mr. Men Show (Cartoon Network). You (and you alone) sing the theme song. NOBODY is allowed to mimic the characters. You also like Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and you LOVE Thomas the Tank Engine. You sing along with all the songs in these shows.

Age: 3 years, 8 months, 5 days
  • Favorite songs: "Winter Wonderland", "Rudolph", "Jingle Bells", "Holly Jolly", "So Sad About Us" (The Who), "Stiff Kittens" (aka The Kittie Song - Blaqk Audio), "The Missing Frame" (AFI), "Cobwebs and Strange" (aka The Cobweb Song - The Who)
  • Favorite colors: Pink, Purple, Yellow
  • Sparkles, diamonds
  • Favorite elements: Argon (because it's Ar and starts with A) and Barium (because it's Ba and ends with A)
  • Everything that starts with A or has an A in it is yours, and your favorite thing. Whenever you see "America" you think it's you.
  • You now build tents/caves/castles/cubbyholes/nests out of everything: pillows, blankets, chairs, blocks...whatever is available. It's all about being "nice and snuggy". You currently have a constant tent made out of 2 pillows and a blanket on your bed that your friends (ie your stuffed animals and dolls) sleep in.
  • You orchestrate everything...even conversations. Examples: "Let's talk about dinosaurs and the big rock that smushed them."; "Ok. Ok. Ok. Here's the deal: I'll sing first. Daddy, you sing next. Then you sing, Muhmuh. When you get to the word 'us' you sing really loudly."; "Let's play a game - I'll , Daddy you and Muhmuh you . No no no...you're not playing it right..." and so on.

Here we go

So, this is the beginning of our blog. we'll see how often we keep this up to date, but hopefully it'll be semi-weekly... (:

So Mia (as she currently likes to be referred to) is still loving The Who. Her current favorite song is So Sad About Us. On the way to Grandma's today, she had to orchestrate the whole song. The first round she sang; round two was the daddy-mia duet;round 3 was mommy-mia. She wanted a whole family sing-a-long, but we ran out of time. Of course, while singing, anytime we came to "so sad about us" you have to sing the "about us" at the top of you lungs...

Last night, she noticed that we put Nora's ultrasound picture in a frame in the living room. She announced that she wanted a picture of Nora in her room so she can look at Nora while she sleeps. After she was sleeping I put another copy in a frame and put it on her bookcase. when she woke up, she instantly noticed it and declared "that's a picture of Nora. She looks like rocks, but she doesn't really look like rocks; it's just the special camera". she also noticed that the frame had pink sparkles on it. BONUS.
